Train Like An Ancient Warrior

I think you know my thoughts by now about how working out doesn’t need to be some perfectly optimized, science-based routine that you hate every second of. For a lot of people (myself included), it’s about feeling strong, capable, and a little bit like a badass warrior. Kettlebells, clubs, maces, sandbags—these tools have been used for centuries, and they’re still helping people get stronger, leaner, and more athletic today.

And honestly? It’s a hell of a lot more fun than sitting on a machine doing isolation curls next to someone scrolling their phone.

In my latest video, I dive into why this style of training works—and why feeling like a gladiator swinging a mace in your backyard might be exactly what you need to finally enjoy your workouts again.

I went from cringing at the phrase “train like a warrior” to fully embracing it—and hundreds of people in Project Bellplex are doing the same.

Find out why...👇

Don’t Optimize Too Early

I've been on a big Alex Hormozi kick lately and one message comes up with him a lot (and I think that is why I have been on such a big kick with him lately).

And that message is about over optimizing too early...now he talks about it in regards to business but the concept applies to fitness (and all areas of life as well).

Alex uses the phrase "optimize before they have earned the right to optimize"

So basically the person who will spend hours perfecting their logo, website, or productivity system...

But they haven't sold their first product, signed their first client or posted their first piece of content.

When you're early on, volume beats efficiency.

Let's bring this back to fitness.

This basically means if you aren't in the gym enough, or aren't bringing the right intensity to your workouts yet...

Then creatine doesn't matter. Whether you rest 60 or 90 seconds between sets doesn't matter. Whether an upper/lower or full body split is better doesn't matter yet.

You have to work hard before you work smart. I will die on this hill and the people who try to work smart BEFORE they've worked hard will think themselves into a blackhole of changing what they're focusing on every week.

Don't major in the minor...start with working out consistently, and working hard consistently. Do that for a while before you start obsessing about things that are the tip of the pyramid.

Client Shoutout

Today's client shoutout goes to a newer member of Project Bellplex Danny! (this text is from one of Danny's friends who I am also very good friends with).

Danny jumped in after struggling to feel like himself again post-baby. He had never lifted much before and didn't like going to a gym, but found his confidence (and strength) through training at home.

Just a few weeks in and he’s already seeing physical changes—but more importantly, his mindset and confidence have completely shifted. You can't beat it!

This is why we do what we do. 💪

Who Is Reacting To Your Content?

This one is for my fitness coaches and trainers...I have a question for you.

Who is interacting with your content?

Who is commenting?

Who is saying "hell yea I love this!"

If the answer to that question is "other coaches" and your goal is to sell coaching to everyday people (and not other coaches) then your message is off.

I see so many fitness coaches making posts explaining a thought they have...for this example, let's just say it's something like "you do have time to meal prep, you're just lazy and not prioritizing your fitness. If you want to truly make progress you need to actually care and make the time" - or whatever, just making up an example here.

And underneath that post is a bunch of OTHER coaches and trainers commenting things like "Preach 🙌" or "Say it louder for the people in the back!"

Here's the problem...other coaches aren't who you are trying to sell your services too. So yea you might be getting a lot of "respect" from them, but your bank account is low...

Because quite frankly...the people willing to pay you for your services saw that post and thought "wow, ok, this coach is a dick and clearly doesn't understand my problems and the things I deal with on a daily basis...I'm never working with this coach".

There are ways to say what you feel and believe without coming across as someone with no empathy or understanding of other people's problems and life struggles. And as a coach, you have to have those traits.

So...If you feel like a big shot because you have a bunch of other people cheering you on in your comments, but all those people are other coaches...and not potential clients...

You need to revisit your message and how you say things.

Your bank account will thank you.
